DemDx Clinical Release Notes – NICE Guidance Updates May 2026 – August 2026

As part of our ongoing Clinical Governance process, DemDx reviews new and updated NICE guidance to ensure our clinical content remains current and aligned with national best practice.

All relevant NICE guidance updates published between May and August 2026 were reviewed by the DemDx Clinical Governance team.

Clinical content updates:

Osteoporosis: risk assessment – NG259

• Updated NICE guidance provides clearer criteria for fracture-risk assessment, including age, fragility fracture, systemic corticosteroid use, recurrent falls, family history, low BMI, smoking and alcohol intake. Premature ovarian insufficiency and early menopause are also recognised as secondary risk factors.

• DemDx content reviewed and updated in line with NICE guidance.

Low back pain and sciatica in over 16s – NG59

• Updated NICE guidance on low back pain and sciatica was reviewed, including relevant red flags, differential diagnosis and referral considerations. NICE withdrew recommendations on psychological therapy and combined physical and psychological programmes from NG159.

• DemDx content reviewed and updated in line with NICE guidance.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) – NG49

• NICE updated its terminology of steatotic liver disease, including the use of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), and NASH to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH).

• DemDx content reviewed and updated in line with NICE guidance.

Acne vulgaris – NG198

• Updated NICE guidance on acne vulgaris was reviewed, including changes to treatment recommendations and associated clinical terminology. NICE has withdrawn its recommendation on triamcinolone acetonide injections and is replacing PCOS with polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS).

• DemDx content reviewed and updated in line with NICE guidance.

Anaphylaxis after emergency treatment – NG258

• The adult and child Allergy Related Rash cards have been updated with advice to check the discharge plan after emergency treatment for anaphylaxis.

• The updated wording covers two in-date adrenaline auto-injectors and knowing when and how to use them, including the parent or carer where appropriate. It includes the NICE exception where the cause was an easily avoidable drug allergy. Existing emergency treatment advice has been retained.

• DemDx content reviewed and updated in line with NICE guidance.
