DemDx was selected to attend the US Digital Health Innovation Mission to Texas in May 2019. The visit was funded by Innovate UK and forms part of the Global Business Innovation Programme.
The mission included visits to the Texas Medical Centre and to hospitals and R&D institutions in Austin. Texas is the second largest economy in the US with a GDP of $1.65 trillion and healthcare forms a core part of their economy.
Houston is home to nearly 4,000 life sciences and research firms, 134 hospitals and medical centres across its metropolitan region, including Texas Medical Centre, the world’s largest medical centre. The 2 square mile campus comprises 61 non-profit medical institutions, including 21 hospitals, 8 academic & research institutions, 4 medical schools & 7 nursing schools, including the world’s largest cancer hospital and largest children’s hospital, the Baylor College of Medicine and the Johnson & Johnson Center for Device Institute.
Austin is the state capital of Texas and has a burgeoning reputation as a healthcare, health technology and life sciences centre, supporting 172,500 local jobs and home to nine publicly traded healthcare company headquarters.
